There were also an array of Ladies' Day prizes for racegoers who dressed for the occasion.

Lesley Lister and her team from Tyne Tees Models had the unenviable task of judging the many breathtaking and varied outfits and accessories.

Lesley told the Courant; "Unlike last year when the weather was warm and sunny the cold wind and squally showers proved a particular challenge for the fashion conscious." Lesley and her team spent several hours among racegoers searching out the fashion highlights.

A large, enthusiastic crowd gathered around the winners' enclosure to congratulate the winners who were presented with their prizes by actor Robson Green (More photos below).

Judging the 'Best Dressed Little Miss' competition

Lesley Lister says that the judges look to find a young lady who loves fashion and style, someone who's full of character and excited to tell them why she chose her Ladies Day outfit.

In the photo below Jessica was receiving her prize of a £60 Metrocentre Gift voucher, donated by The Racecourse, from Lesley.
