Ladies Day 2010

Ladies Shine in the Sun at Hexham Races

The ladies of Tynedale turned on the style at a sun drenched Yarridge Heights last Sunday when Hexham Racecourse staged the annual totesport Ladies' Day meeting.

One of the largest crowds of the year saw six exciting National Hunt races and enjoyed a varied programme of supporting events including a pre-race "beauty parade" of jockeys.

There were ten "runners" in the Best Looking Jockey's Parade and the winner was Tom David. Keith Mercer came a close second and Peter Buchanan was third. Tom received a box of Gentleman's Cosmetics donated by Reflections of Corbridge whose team gave ladies a free makeover throughout the afternoon.

It was an occasion when fashion came to the fore and Lesley Lister and her team from Tyne Tees Models had the almost impossible task of judging the Best Dressed Lady, the Most Elegant Hat and the Best Dressed Little Miss.

Christine Boyle from Durham winner of the best dressed lady at Hexham Racecourse Ladies' Day
The Best Dressed Lady award went to Christine Boyle from Durham who won a race named in her honour at a future race meeting and a  champagne lunch for two donated  by The Racecourse.
Clare Harvey of Blaydon winner of the most Elegant Hat award at Hexham Racecourse Ladies' Day
The Most Elegant Hat award and prize of £120 worth of beauty products donated by Reflections of Corbridge was won by Clare Harvey of Blaydon.
Best Dressed Little Miss was Jessica Fawcett from Greenside
The Best Dressed Little Miss was Jessica Fawcett from Greenside. Lesley Lister presented Jessica with a £60 Metrocentre Gift voucher donated by The Racecourse.

Commenting on the high standard of fashion, Lesley told the Courant;

 "Coming just a day after Royal Ascot, the ladies of Tynedale can be very proud of themselves. Many of the ladies at Hexham would have been equally at home in the Royal Enclosure at Ascot and many of the outfits were simply stunning. It was very difficult to choose winners."

Among the large crowd were many appreciative dads and their families who were celebrating Fathers' Day.
