Hexham Racecourse Syndicate
The Hexham Handicappers, as they are collectively known, are members of a syndicate, who have shares in the racehorse CALCULAITE. The syndicate mainly comprises of people who regularly go racing at Hexham.
Hexham Handicappers say it gives them, as keen race-goers, the opportunity to enjoy the thrills (and the spills) of being an owner at a much lower cost than buying a horse outright. They also say that being in the syndicate they receive the benefits of racehorse ownership including:
- The opportunity to join the trainer and jockey in the parade ring and hopefully the winners' enclosure.
- An exclusive telephone information line giving them the latest news about their horse.
- Visits to the trainer's yard and to see their horse working on the gallops.

5% shares are available in Calculaite who has won four races on the flat from 8 - 10 furlongs as well as two Handicap Hurdle races at Sedgefield. The latest of those was in June on his first start back after a wind operation. He won easily by 7 lengths and is a progressive horse who should give us a lot more successes in the months and years ahead.

Trained by Martin Todhunter at Orton in Cumbria, Calculaite runs in the name and colours of a syndicate called The Hexham Handicappers.
Martin has always thought a lot of Calculaite who could also run on the flat as well as over fences and so there will be no lack of suitable opportunities for him. He was an excellent 5th of 13 in a competitive Class 3 Handicap Hurdle at Perth on 24th September (beaten only 5.25 lengths by the winner & 1.75 lengths by the second)and that should put him spot on after a three month break. He will hopefully win next time out so come & join us!!
Cost and Duration
The syndicate comprises of 20 x 5% shares which are available for £300 each. In addition you will be asked to pay £80 per month towards his training fees, racing expenses and the administration costs of the syndicate. At the end of each season you will receive your share of any prize money won and also have the choice to either sell your share or continue for another year.
